Paul: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV)
Paul praised and served God in even the most difficult circumstances. His relationship with God was an "every day, wherever you are, whatever is happening" relationship. No matter what his situation, he trusted God's love.
Paul created his own "cathedral" and praised God in whatever situation he found himself.
I wanted to paint these ideas. His reflection at the end of his life, when he said, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."

Paul: Bound, chained, whipped, stoned, and imprisoned, yet strong in spirit

Paul was:
* five times given one less than 40 lashes by the Jews;
* Beaten three times by the Romans;
* Stoned once;
* Shipwrecked three times;
* Adrift at sea a day and night.
He:
* Faced danger in the desert and from false brothers;
* Experienced hunger and thirst; and
* Was put in prison to quiet his message.
But he could not be contained. He was a vessel.
This painting, which sets the stage for the next two pieces, shows stripes from the beatings and the dark underground prison. But the bars are transparent - they could not stop him. We continue to enjoy his writings 2000 years later.
